About Wayland
map
Located to the west of Boston, Wayland was originally settled as part of the Sudbury Plantation in 1673. Although incorporated during the year 1780 it was not founded as a town until 1835.

The town was named after a woman by the name of Francis Wayland who started the first free public library in Massachusetts in the year 1848, and was also a preacher and president of Brown University.

The town attractions include the Ground Herd House as well as the Depot which is a small shop in an old train station. Wayland also includes one of the best school systems in the state of Massachusetts.

Great Presenters - George Gantz

THE HUMAN RACE AND THE TECHNOLOGY RACE

Has technology advanced beyond our ability to control it? Some believe this is a good thing and will lead to a marvelous Singularity, a point where self-replicating machinery will largely replace human labor, freeing humans to pursue whatever they want. Others are less sanguine about the impacts of technology, warning that the earth and the human race itself may be headed for disaster. Gantz will lead a discussion on these profound questions, starting with our own experiences with digital technologies and recent research on the human-digital interface.

George Gantz is a retired business executive with a life-long passion for mathematics, science, philosophy and theology. He now directs the ISAS Forum on Integrating Science and Spirituality and blogs on related topics at swedenborgcenterconcord.org.

A Mass for St. Augustine of Canterbury: Missa sine nomine

Blue Heron, "one of the Boston music community's indispensables" (Boston Globe), offers another gem from the Peterhouse Partbooks (copied c.1540). This characterful, quirky, and entirely anonymous (and nameless) work was perhaps dedicated to Canterbury's local hero, St. Augustine. Blue Heron's Music Director is Scott Metcalfe.

Blue Heron has been engaged with the Peterhouse Partbooks since its founding in 1999, and has released three CD's of the best music found in them, and plans to release two more. The critics have raved about the recordings. "Expressive intensity ... even a hint of baroque flair" (Alex Ross, The New Yorker)

"An exciting series... top marks in all respects" (Barry Brenesal, Fanfare).
